IBM Bolsters DB2 Web Query

A new release of DB2 Web Query offers up improved functionality to the report authoring tool and the option to have a customized implementation of DB2 Web Query via IBM's Lab Services,

DB2 Web Query is an IBM i business intelligence technology built off Information Builders' WebFOCUS application which IBM debuted a few years ago. It works with JD Edwards World and EnterpriseOne databases, and is gaining in popularity due to its Web-based user interface, called InfoAssist, and graphical capabilities.

For JD Edwards enterprises the new release provides a new database adapter that lets DB2 Web Query to report on data stored in World or EnterpriseOne databases within DB2/400. IBM says the adapter provides "a level of seamless integration" to simplify report writing. Also, by taking JD Edwards metadata and security into account, the new adapter also helps to preserve data integrity and security during report execution, IBM says.

Here are some other enhancements:
• DB2 Web Query 1.1.2 also enhances the web-based query and reporting tools in
several other areas, including performance, administration, usability, and security.
• The DB2 Web Query Application Extensions are a set of IBM assets that can be
obtained through IBM Systems Lab Services that simplifies the integration of DB2
Web Query functions into existing or customized applications without having to
do any coding. Kick off a report from an existing application interface or embed
report execution from a portal or other web or 5250 interface.
