A DBA Offers Up Good Tips In Migrating to DB2

At the end of the week I try to spend some time searching for pearls of wisdom about DB2, IBM's technologies and get a glimpse at what DBAs are being challenged with given the increasing data workloads and expecations that businesses have about getting insight from data.

And I struck a bit of gold in locating an informative, well written and step-by-step strategy for moving Oracle databases to DB2. The great value is that the author is a DBA herself and knows her stuff.

Rebecca Bond, over at Database Journal, maps out 10 tips for making the move from Oracle to DB2, and how IBM's out-of-the-box "enablement" functionality tasks and fast tracks the effort.

She relates the journey as an "enablement trail" in an engaging and easy- to- read fashion. Show since I enjoyed her "travelogu," I wanted to share it with others looking for insight on such database efforts.

She also offers up some great additional resources, such as IBM's Redbook: Oracle to DB2 Conversion Guide: Compatibility Made Easy.

This guide offers up best practices for moving to DB2 how best ot manage common scenarios. As IBM notes, companies migrating to DB2 from Oracle report high compatibility between the code they developed for Oracle and what they were experiencing with DB2 -- rates between 90% to 100%.
