Enterprises On Board To Switch From Sybase to IBM

Sometimes, when a vendor announces a new innovation, that's the end of the story with often little follow-up news on how the new product or service is actually being received in the enterprise.

That's rarely ever true when you're talking IBM innovations though, and the latest news about DB2 SQL Skin is a proof point.

Late last week I wrote about I wrote how the IBM technology is making migration from Sybase ASE to IBM easier than ever.

And apparently enterprises are eager to put it to use. Database consolidation player ANTs software says 10 global 2000 and several other big financial services, healthcare providers and manufacturing enterprises are ready to put it to work.

The 10, of a total of 19 Sybase to DB2 migration projects, are in ANTs' project pipeline. It expect to convert a number of these engagements starting in the third quarter in collaboration with IBM expertise.

Migrating from Sybase ASE to IBM DB2 can help enterprises lower costs, consolidate and maximize infrastructure and better deploy database administrator skills and manpower.

"These customers have the opportunity to create a lower cost and much more scalable infrastructure. IBM and ANTs are working closely to expand the current opportunities into global financial services and telecommunications markets, two sectors where Sybase is prevalent and cost savings are a major priority," states Joseph Kozak, chairman and CEO of ANTs Software, in a release announcing the customer news.
