How IBM & Oracle Are Supporting OpenJDK


Good technology vendors have good partners and that's exactly the case with IBM and Oracle.

In case you missed the news recently, IBM and Oracle are collaborating to help developers and enterprise team build on their Java investments and the OpenJDK reference. It's all about supporting the OpenJDK community to become the defacto open source Java environment.

Both Oracle and IBM have pledged to do what they can to enhance and foster the Java Community Process (JCP) as the primary standards body.

The two partners are supporting the recently announced OpenJDK development roadmap.

"The Java community is vital to the evolution of the Java platform," said Hasan Rizvi, senior Oracle VP, said in a statement. "The collaboration between Oracle and IBM builds on the success of OpenJDK as the primary development platform for Java SE."

"IBM, Oracle and other members of the Java community working collaboratively in OpenJDK will accelerate the innovation in the Java platform," said Rod Smith, VP, emerging technologies, IBM, in a press release on the news.

"Oracle and IBM's collaboration also signals to enterprise customers that they can continue to rely on the Java community to deliver more open, flexible and innovative new technologies to help grow their business."

It also signals the clear message that while two companies can have competitive aspects; they can and do work together on synergistic technologies and goals in helping their enterprise customer base.
